Progress went well.  To see actual changes look at the fixator and "struts" (those rods that we turned daily between each ring).

A remarkable change you can see is the lower ring around Nate's foot. Look at the rotation of the ring.  You can see where the struts are bolted to the ring and how they have shifted counter-clockwise.  Looking close at the foot, you will also see it leveling off.

The most dramatic improvement happened on the day of Sept 1.  He went into and unexpected surgery that day with the Aug 25 positioning and came out with the Sept 2 modification!  Incredible!  See 2nd Surgery.

Everything went well for the 3rd Surgery.  We did have a minor setback.  The tibia still needed to be rotated outward about 20 degrees so that his foot is in the correct position.  It was not turned out enough (see transition from  Sept 25 to Oct 12 photo).  However, Nathan was out of the hospital the next day and was able to come home two days early!

Nathan and Laurie came home from Florida Oct 16 and Dr. Paley said the foot was in "perfect alignment".  We attended to several pin site infections.  X-rays indicated the bones are healing well.

UPDATE:  The fixator was removed on Dec.15, Nathan left the hospital with a removable cast until we can get a lower brace (called an AFO) made asap.  Physical therapy will likely take a few months. This whole ordeal is pretty-much finished.  From contacting Dr. Paley to fixator off took about a year--more than half of that time was spent waiting.  Read more, 4th surgery...

Life was pretty normal for Nathan, even though he had this thing on for about five months.  Here he is doing his homework.  You should see him play the Wii with this on!
