Trip 1: Seneca and Cayuga Lakes |
Members of my family have started a tradition to camp at Watkins Glen International Speedway for the NASCAR races in August. This year I rode my bike to the track, with the expectation of
riding around Cayuga Lake (NY Finger Lakes Region) during our three-day weekend in the area. I took the trip, despite the rainy conditions. Below are some photos from that trip and a map of the
ride. The green path is the one I took. I went down the west side of Seneca Lake to Watkins Glen from Rochester in one ride. It only took a couple hours. The next day I rode from
Watkins Glen, to Ithaca, around Cayuga Lake, and back to the Glen. In all, it took about 4 hours. |

This bike was filthy, but you can't really tell from the photos. |

Trip 2: The Adirondacks Indian Lake Loop |
I rode nearly 500 miles from Rochester to the Adirondack Mountains (Park). It took me about 9 hours. I did this to see how well I could handle that long in the saddle. With my
ergonomic modifications and preparations, the trip went remarkably smooth. Not too many photographs, sorry to say. |

I had to bum some waterproof tape from a custodian at a Thruway rest stop. The upper bracket on my highway pegs slid down and I had no way of keeping it up. I
just wrapped this tape under it thick and it seated just fine until I almost got back home! |

Note: After my ride was concluded, I realized that one of my stops on this big trip, Centralia, PA, is a "Modern Ruin", a ghost town if you will. I'm sorry
not to have know this before hand, as I could have understood the significance of my being there. I'd surely have stayed a bit longer. Read about this fallen town and the fire burning underneath
it...
