Dog Bone Risers

I already changed my pullback bars to modifed drag (cafe) style bars.  I liked the change very much.  I've been thinking about a "t-bar" or tall riser with drag bar look and feel.

Risers are damn expensive.  I saw a pair of these "dog-bone" risers on eBay go for $10!  So I bid on some from the same guy.  I ended up paying $30.  They are polished aluminum and are not show quality.  I like the look and the feel of higher bars is great.  I think the bike handles better.   See how I installed them below.

The 1" bar attached to the stock risers came with the dog bones.  I cut it down to 7 1/4".  This requires a special pipe cutting saw.  Don't attempt to cut with hack saw.  I work in a High School and went to see a fellow teacher in the metal shop to cut it for me.

What's cool about this type of riser is that you can move the bars foward (or back) based on your preference.

The dog bones connect the bottom bar to the handle bars.  These are 4" risers and I did not need to change any hoses or cables.

The bottom bar has holes in the ends.  I found these metal plugs at a local hardware store for cheap.  I bought a bunch in case they fall out.  They look perfect in there.

My appraisal of the risers:

In the looks department, they are not as aesthetic as billet risers.  But they do look pretty cool.  I may replace the bar with a flatter type for two reasons:  to hunch me forward in the seat and for looks.

The comfort is great and the bike handles better in my opinion.  I am sitting back more than I like, as I did with the pullbacks.  However, my hands are about shoulder height, which I really like.  The pullbacks weren't that high as I recall.

I may shift them forward to get off my tail bone, but the further you set them forward, the more awkward it will look, I think.

This was a relatively inexpensive and quick way to raise my bars.  ...

Update:  I recently removed these risers.  Since my Chopper Seat was installed, I wanted to hunch forward more and removing the risers did the trick.
