Drilled Muffler

I drilled out my muffler for a little better sound.  Below are pictures and sound files to help you out.

It was cheap and easy and so far I have had no problems with the way the bike runs.  Backfires are a bit louder now and I can definitely be heard!

The bike runs pretty much the same now.  I don't notice any performance changes after about 50 miles.

Listen to my Bike! (Not really!)

The first thing I did was drill a 1/4" hole on the inside of the muffler about 12" inside.  I needed a 12" drill bit extension to get in there.  This gave me minimal difference if any.  I suppose a 1/2" hole would be better, according to a Savage Home Page user testimonial.

I went kinda nuts and drilled 2 9/32" (One up from 1/4") holes in the back plate.  My what a difference.  The Wav sound files really don't show you how much louder it really is.  Dogs were freaking out and people looked up at me while riding it the first time.  I'm not used to that.

It's not as deep as I would like, but for the price ($0) it will do just fine.

I suppose I could go bigger, with the holes or add more, but I'm satisfied with the overall sound.

Bottom Line:  If you just want your Savage to sound like an actual motorcycle, try this.  Start with smaller/fewer holes and work up.  It's low budget, but sounds better than stock in my opinion.  Again, it's not as low of a rumble as a Harley, but it's still a whole lot cooler sounding than stock.  Took 5 minutes.

And any of you out there with Jardines and Supertrapps, get us some WAV files so we can see if the investment is worth it!  I'll upload the files here with mine.
